Meet Ollie

Ollie Clemons is the Mayor of The City of Austell. He has served the City since 2013, when he was elected as Councilman of At Large Post 1 in Austell, then won the seat for Mayor in 2019. This accomplishment made him the first new mayor in 30 years.

Prior to his role in city government, Clemons was a senior sales executive with the U.S. Postal Service where he spent 33 years and received numerous awards and promotions, but most importantly, Ollie served his community. Mayor Clemons has been active in his church for years- serving as Head Elder, President of the nonprofit board for the Outreach Ministry, and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Senior Retirement Community.  He was serving as President of his neighborhood HOA, focusing on assisting the Board to eliminate thousands of dollars of debt when was approached by Mayor Jerkins with an opportunity to widen his reach in the Austell community.

Ollie Clemons served on the Variance Board, the Austell Community Collaborative, Austell Community Improvement Commission, as Vice President of the Planning and Zoning Board. These experiences helped Mayor Clemons get to know the City of Austell, its residents, and to understand the needs of the city. His Municipal education has been both beneficial and exciting to him. The years of courses he has taken through the Georgia Municipal Association have provided technical understanding of policies, while being an active volunteer in the community allowed him to see the city as a business but love the city as home.

Ollie led the rejuvenation of the Threadmill Complex, he organized the walking track build at Austell Elementary School and he was a driving force behind the establishment of the Austell Youth Innovation Center. Mayor Clemons is on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Regional Commission, Board of Directors for the Georgia Municipal Association, he serves on an Atlanta City Schools Advisory Board, he worked on the Flex Bus program with Cobb County, and our Mayor is continuously working with City of Austell Directors and business owners to develop and maintain beautiful green spaces, as well as a vibrant downtown district. Mayor Ollie Clemons’ goal has always been to improve Austell’s infrastructure, public safety, and quality of life.

The capacity in which Mayor Clemons serves Austell is extensive but rewarding. Ollie is a dedicated husband of 27 years, father of five, and grandfather of six. He believes in hard work, unshakeable faith, and family-time. When Ollie’s grandchildren are not visiting, he travels to visit them or to spend time with his in-laws or his eldest sister. His love for family and reliance in God keep him energized and encouraged.
